Thought for the week: The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age, which means never losing your enthusiasm.

We can look forward to warmer temperatures. We were in a deep freeze for a couple weeks so we are thankful for the warmer temperatures. Sunday the snow even melted a little. My heart and prayers were with people that had to be out in the cold.

Katrina Beel finished her high school basketball by playing on Monday and Tuesday in Broken Bow. On Tuesday evening she had a 3-pointer to finish up on.

Katrina was in Kearney for the rest of the week after the ball game on Monday night. Katrina was one of 12 young people that participated in the Aspiring Young Cattlemen program. Katrina received a charolais heifer last spring. She had to take care of it, get it bred to the right bull, show it at the county fair, and then on Wednesday at the Cattlemen Classic. The heifer was from Rennert Ranch from Elm Creek. Kristian gave Katrina advise on what to feed it and other helpful things. The heifer was sold on Friday. Frank, CeeAnna and Lily Beel attended the sale and brought Katrina home.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Appleman and John Appleman were amoung the many people that attended the services for Greg Lohmeyer on Wednesday at the funeral home. A lunch was held at the American Legion Club following the services.

John Connell, grandson of Ruth Allen, wrestled in Mullen on Sunday and brought home 1st place.

Ruth Trobee traveled to Gordon on Thursday to attend the funeral service of George Jones, 76 of Gordon. His wife was the former Jackie McCall.

Emilyn Goochey celebrated her 8th birthday on February 12th with a party for her friends and family at the Conference Center.

The Northeast Community College judging teams have been busy last weekend. They judged in Valentine on February 12th. The team placed 5th and 10th overall. The team made their way to Kearney for judging at the Cattlemen’s Classic and the sophomore team was 7th overall. Henry K. Beel, Johnstown is a sophomore on the judging team.

Sidney Schmidt of Waverly came last week to help his parents, Arvin and Joyce Schmidt with calving during the cold spell.

Rebel Nadolski of Lincoln stayed all night with her cousins, Olivia and Eli Beel on Thursday night. Rhy Nadolski spent the day time with the Beels. The family was in Valentine for the ice fishing tournament.

Sunday, February 21, 2021 the Johnstown United Methodist Church presented Bibles to youth of the church. Jacob Held and Addison Held, son/daughter of Brandy Held were recipients of Bibles. Adam Beel presented the Bibles to the youth. The church encouraged Jacob and Addison to use the Word of God to continue growing in their faith.
