Ainsworth Irrigation District Board Meeting

The Board of Directors of the Ainsworth Irrigation District will meet on Tuesday, March 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at the Ainsworth Irrigation District headquarters building, one mile east and a quarter of a mile north of Ainsworth.

New Shelter Constructed at Merritt Reservoir

Visitors to Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area have a new place to gather in the shade. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission recently installed a new 988-square-foot shelter at the Cedar Bay area. The $100,000.00 cost of the project was equally divided between the Game and Parks Capital Maintenance Fund and a grant from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

Ainsworth Lions Club Holds Regular Monthly Meeting

The Ainsworth Lions Club held its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on February 15, 2021 at Canyon Creek and on Zoom. Lions Club President Vance Heyer called the meeting to order, with seven members present. Lion President Heyer led the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Dave Spann gave the prayer. Minutes of the October 20, 2020 meeting were approved. The Treasurer’s Report was read and approved.

A Vaccine Story for the Ages

Last summer we heard the prediction that by the end of 2020, we would have a safe, effective vaccine to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which had only been discovered, of course, in December 2019, before causing countless deaths and mayhem in the world as we knew it. I must admit, I was skeptical.

Carol Woods was very glad the Saturday evening and Sunday morning rain/snow mix missed us. It was great to have a nice sunny day on Sunday. Although it was chilly with the wind. The extreme cold and below zero weather is getting old. Carol’s brother, Jim Marsh of Ceresco, already had three inches of snow by 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
