Open House of New Ambulance Barn and Celebrating 50 Years of Service in the Brown County Area

Celebrating Our Past and Forging Our Future! Brown County Ambulance Association is celebrating their 50th Anniversary with an Open House Celebration at their new ambulance barn at the corner of 3rd and Walnut Streets on Saturday, June 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served while members of Brown County Ambulance Association proudly share their history and inform the pubic of the service they provide and excel in as well as information about how to join and become an emergency service provider for your community.
Reminiscent of 2019, County Checking Roads for Washouts

An isolated supercell developed along a warm front and remained nearly stationary for nearly two hours during the early evening hours on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from Ainsworth to Long Pine. The supercell produced at least two brief tornadoes along with heavy rains that washed out at least one road and flooded many others south of Ainsworth and Long Pine.

On Saturday, June 22nd, Long Pine Chamber of Commerce celebrated an extraordinary young man, Ryan Collins, who, at just nine years old, has made a remarkable impact on their community. Over the past year, Ryan has volunteered tirelessly to pick up trash around Long Pine Recreation Park and throughout the community, not just keeping it clean but also helping the wildlife that travels through it.
Sandhill Precision Rifle Club Holds 2nd Annual Sandhills Shootout

The Sandhills Precision Rifle Club held its 2nd Annual Sandhills Shootout on June 15th west of Johnstown, NE. The 2nd Annual Sandhills Shootout was sponsored by Zeiss, a German manufacturer of optical systems and optoelectronics, founded in Jena, Germany in 1846.
Two Ainsworth Middle School Student Projects Compete at National History Day

On Monday, June 10th, four students from Ainsworth Middle School participated at the national level of the National History Day (NHD) competition in College Park, Maryland. One of those projects, a performance by sixth grade students, Keith Munnu, Max Hasenohr, and Paul Denny, was named the outstanding junior entry from the state of Nebraska.

The Board of Directors of the Ainsworth Irrigation District will meet on Tuesday, March 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at the Ainsworth Irrigation District headquarters building, one mile east and a quarter of a mile north of Ainsworth.

New Shelter Constructed at Merritt Reservoir

Visitors to Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area have a new place to gather in the shade. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission recently installed a new 988-square-foot shelter at the Cedar Bay area. The $100,000.00 cost of the project was equally divided between the Game and Parks Capital Maintenance Fund and a grant from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

Ainsworth Lions Club Holds Regular Monthly Meeting

The Ainsworth Lions Club held its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on February 15, 2021 at Canyon Creek and on Zoom. Lions Club President Vance Heyer called the meeting to order, with seven members present. Lion President Heyer led the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Dave Spann gave the prayer. Minutes of the October 20, 2020 meeting were approved. The Treasurer’s Report was read and approved.

Last summer we heard the prediction that by the end of 2020, we would have a safe, effective vaccine to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which had only been discovered, of course, in December 2019, before causing countless deaths and mayhem in the world as we knew it. I must admit, I was skeptical.

Carol Woods was very glad the Saturday evening and Sunday morning rain/snow mix missed us. It was great to have a nice sunny day on Sunday. Although it was chilly with the wind. The extreme cold and below zero weather is getting old. Carol’s brother, Jim Marsh of Ceresco, already had three inches of snow by 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
